The “synchronous speed” is the speed of the rotating magnetic field in an electric motor. Here is a simple synchronous speed calculator. Always remember that the synchronous speed and rated speed are two different parameters.
Motor synchronous speed calculator
Number of poles | |
Supply frequency | hz |
Result | |
Synchronous speed | RPM |
How to use the synchronous speed calculator:
The above tool requires following data for calculation:
- The number of poles in the motor. (Mandatory)
- Supply frequency. (Mandatory)
After entering the required data, click on the “Calculate” button to find out the motor speed.
Motor synchronous speed calculation
The following formula can be used for the calculation:
Where,
- f: Supply frequency
- P : The number of poles
Therefore the synchronous speed of a motor is directly proportional to the supply frequency and inversely proportional to the number of poles in the motor.
Standard synchronous speed table
No. of poles | Speed at 50Hz | Speed at 60Hz |
---|---|---|
2 | 3000 | 3600 |
4 | 1500 | 1800 |
6 | 1000 | 1200 |
8 | 750 | 900 |
10 | 600 | 720 |
12 | 500 | 600 |
16 | 375 | 450 |
24 | 250 | 300 |
